This work was the first modern attempt to prove that race is the primary force determining world events and history.
Working with the limited scientific data available at the time of writing (1853), Arthur de Gobineau divided humans into three major groupings, white, yellow and black.
He argues that the cause of the downfall of civilizations is always racial mixing, and that every civilization has either been directly controlled by what he called “Aryans” or has had a significant Aryan element mixed in it.
He also argues that climate and environment have no bearing on racial characteristics.
This book was a cornerstone work for 20th century racial theory, and is of immense importance for this reason alone.

Written in 1855, this book is the "Ur Text" of European racism. It sets forth Arthur de Gobineau's case for racial determinism and the superiority of the "Aryan Race." Even though it provides a favorable discussion of Jews, it was the primary "scientific" justification of Natzism. It can and should be read with full knowledge of its terrible Twentieth Century consequences.

It is badly written
great, foundational material for nazi idealology
While it's obvious that some of the information was out of date or rendered inaccurate by other discoveries, that was to be expected from a book written over a century ago. What I didn't expect was just how convincing Arthur de Gobineau was in his philosophical arguments. He clearly lays out why race is a key factor in the rise and fall of societies, and argues his point immensely well.
I was curious as to why this was such a 'must read' books for people who hold the modern delusion (for what else can we call a such a mass rejection of science and reality, if not delusional?) on race in disdain, and now I know why.
This is absolutely a must read for anyone with even a passing interest in human races and how the differences between them can warp societies. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

A lot has been said about this book's merritts , so I am not going to be redundant and praise it again. I will simply say that it is a pleasure to read. If You want to just relax and enjoy Yourself - buy this book and read it.
This digital version is a dog's breakfast, a jumble of text and footnotes mixed mid-sentence and sprinkled liberally with meaningless characters.
Shame on to offer this mess for hard cash
